Sites for Free Genealogy Research

It can be exciting to learn more about your historical past. You can find out information about your past on various different online sites. The best part of many sites is that they can offer free genealogy research services.

Before using free genealogy research services you will need to take care of a few parts of the process. First, you will need to get all of the information about your family history that you have available. This can help to assist you with your research and to make things easier. These pieces of information include dates of birth, marriage and death, family surnames and first names, occupations and where they lived. With this information you can begin working on free genealogy research.

Part of free genealogy research that can be found online includes using forms for taking notes on what you find, using a checklist for various censuses that can help and by using a checking of military records you can get additional help. An index of marriages can help as well, and there are various different kinds of worksheets that can help with free genealogy research.

Another part of free genealogy research involves using software that can be downloaded for free online. The Brother’s Keeper Genealogy Software is a good example of this. Family Tree Legends can also be used for free genealogy research, as it helps with genealogical searches. Gedmark works to secure your historical information on GEDCOM files, and GeneWeb uses a web interface to help you with storing information. TimeLine Maker helps to create charts and tables of your history. These are just some of the many programs that can be used for free genealogy research.

Other tools for free genealogy research include Timelines, a program that helps with creating family history timelines, and a Relationship Calculator and Converter that helps with converting surnames to soundex.

Translation tools can be used to help get information on your family history printed in foreign languages. The Babel Fish Translation Program and Google Language Tools are useful. Systran Translation can help also, as it can translate accurately up to 150 words at once.

Part of free genealogy research involves free databases for research. AccessGenealogy, Free Family Surname Search and Digital Archives can help with your free genealogy research.

You can get free genealogy search by taking free online courses that can help. There are free guides to research and tips for advanced searches that are available to you for free. Guides for how to search online can also be useful.

There is an important caveat with some of the free genealogy search products though. Some may be free for only a few days, like shareware, and some may only have some of the features included, and you’d have to pay for the full version. Whatever your choice is, be sure to use the free genealogy research that you get to its best potential so that you can get more information about your past.
